But already, Chinese leaders are angling to take the United States` place and expand the country`s influence in the region. In exchange, the United States had negotiated labor, environmental and intellectual property protections that major businesses sought. However, by pulling the United States out of the deal, Trump fulfilled a campaign promise. Best-case scenario for the United States: Nothing at all, since China wasn`t involved in the TPP. The task is difficult -- even though Trump`s move to withdraw from the TPP is likely to be politically popular.
Leaders in Iran and Iraq, two of the countries targeted by Mr. Trump?s order, issued furious denunciations on Sunday and vowed to take retaliatory measures. Pakistan, another country whose citizens have carried out attacks in the United States, also ducked Mr. Trump?s list. In a Facebook post on Sunday evening, Mr. Trump insisted that his policy was not a ?Muslim ban? and accused the news media of inaccurate reporting. In his order on Friday, whose stated aim is to keep extremists out of the United States, Mr. Trump invoked the Sept. 11 attacks three times. Yet in much of the Middle East, Mr. Trump is less likely to get such a scolding.
? Many of the Muslims gathered at a community center here on Sunday to learn more about President Donald Trump?s recent executive order won?t necessarily be targeted by it directly, but they were frightened anyway. The roughly 150 people at Silver Spring?s Muslim Community Center are worried about what Trump will do next. Pakistan isn?t on the list of countries in Trump?s executive order, but they want to see how things play out before making plans. The reason for that fear: Trump has only been president for nine days, and he already made a drastic policy change that disproportionately affects Muslims, whom he once vowed to bar from entering the country entirely. That doesn?t mean a U.S. citizen would have nothing to fear in a registry ? Beydoun said he thinks surveillance could allow the government to collect a considerable amount of information about American Muslims.
Many Iraqis and Afghans who have worked for the United States since 2001, often as interpreters, say they were promised resettlement in the United States to save them from attack at home. Refugees from Syria, whom Mr. Trump portrayed during his election campaign as potential Islamic State infiltrators, will be barred indefinitely from the country. On Friday, Mr. Trump said that once the United States resumed the intake of refugees, Christians would receive priority. ?Now it only has to pump out our press releases to prove that.?Mr. Trump?s executive order will alienate the pro-Western elites that Americans turn to for help in Muslim countries, Mr. Crocker said. There have been numerous reports of Muslims being harassed in the United States since Mr. Trump?s election.
The monarch ? America?s last king ? is often referred to as ?mad King George.? He was Britain?s longest reigning king, ruling from 1760-1820. LONDON ? An enormous cache of historical documents from Britain?s royal archives detailing the reign of King George III is going online Saturday as part of the royal family?s effort to rehabilitate the legacy of the monarch widely regarded as having been insane. The portal goes online with the endorsement of Queen Elizabeth II, as part of a five-year project to digitalize 350,000 documents in the archives? collection of Georgian papers. One of the key documents is a handwritten draft letter of abdication that the king wrote in 1783. The documents also show a keen interest in the 1775-1783 American revolutionary war to overthrow British rule in 13 American colonies.
Darryl Dyck?AP(TORONTO) ? The company behind the Keystone XL pipeline submitted on Thursday a new presidential permit application to the U.S. Department of State for approval. The application by TransCanada comes after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order earlier this week to expedite the project. Ninety-seven percent of Canada`s oil exports go to the U.S.Keystone XL would carry more than one-fifth of the oil Canada exports to the United States. Trump directed the State Department and other agencies to make a decision within 60 days of a final application. Former President Barack Obama rejected Keystone XL in 2015, saying it would undercut efforts to cinch a global climate change deal in his environmental agenda.
On Wednesday, an FBI official told ABC 7 Chicago the agency believes more than one person may be involved. The Belize National Police, however, are in charge of the investigation. "The only witness that we have is a Guatemalan national, he was in the area," Raphael Martinez, of the Belize National Police told ABC 7 Chicago. More than one person may be involved in the murder of an American news producer last year while she was staying at a vacation resort in Belize, according to a published report. There is no nationwide tourist advisory for Belize, but those who visit the country are encouraged to be careful due to the increased crime rate.
