They`re called "trainers" in the UK, sneakers or kicks in other parts of the world like the US.
In South Africa, sports footwear fans meet to buy, sell and trade amongst themselves.
The BBC went along to a "Sneaker Exchange" event in Johannesburg to find out what all the hype is about.
