President Donald Trump plans to release on Monday his long-awaited plan to generate at least $1.
5 trillion to upgrade U.
roads, bridges, airports and other public works, according to a White House official.
The plan is designed to kick off the process for producing infrastructure legislation.
It will outline Trump’s strategy to generate new investment, streamline the project review and permitting process to two years or less and provide funding for rural projects, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss policy that hasn’t been publicly announced.
Administration officials have been discussing allocating at least $200 billion over 10 years, with half going toward incentives to encourage states, localities and the private sector to raise and spend their own funds.
Some Democrats have raised concern about a lack of adequate funding.
The plan would also dedicate a quarter of the new federal money to rural areas for roads, broadband and other needs and money for “transformational” projects that can’t attract private financing, according to a fact sheet released Jan.
30 by the White House.
